Her Cowgirl Strength: The Untold Stories of Black Cowgirls and Equestrians is the first book dedicated to documenting the history, achievements, and personal stories of Black women in the horse world. Through interviews and extensive research, this book preserves the stories of women whose contributions have too often gone unrecognized.
From rodeo champions and mounted police officers to polo players, ranchers, horse trainers, farriers, breeders, and equestrian coaches, these women have broken barriers, built legacies, and opened doors for future generations. This project is about more than preserving history. It is about ensuring these remarkable women receive the recognition they deserve while inspiring young people to discover the many opportunities available in the equestrian world—whether through competition, agriculture, public service, business, or lifelong careers with horses.
By recording these stories today, we help ensure that future generations will know these women were here, what they accomplished, and the paths they created for others to follow.
Many of these stories have never been published and, without this project, risk being lost to history.
